Ratz Rampage part I The first of a possible summer series for next year. A good number turned up, not too many, and certainly not too few. A mix of riders were present, including a number of competitive riders: pros/semi-pros, more peddle-on riders then anyone could comfortably shake the perverbal stick at, and even a few juniors. The atmostphere could be probably be best described as 'intimate'. The lap started at the car park, which is about a half mile of very thin track which took us to the main loop inside hammonds wood. With a mass start, this made the first corner onto the track interesting, if it weren't for the two riders I was bouncing off either side of me I woudn't have made it round! For my part of the race I went throught the usual emotions of: This'll be a breeze I'm actually quite knackered Why am I doing this? I'll just feign a puncture Come on, push you pansy This ain't so bad Colapse at the end. One small niggle was the leader of our group finished his 6th lap at 48mins, which ment that everyone else had to do an unexpected addtional lap. The b@$t@rd. Dispite home advantage, I finished 11th out of about 25. I was hoping for a top 10 - I blame the weight of the walky-talky I was carrying since i was volenteered to be a racing marshal. That, or the 8.5 miles I have to ride to get to the track. Or racing against elites. or perhaps I'm just not that quick.
